Commission a Carved Door

A threshold shaped by architecture, story, and place.

A carved door is never just a functional object. It is a threshold between worlds — shaped by architecture, story, and the character of the people who pass through it.

Each commission begins as a conversation and becomes a work of architectural carving designed specifically for its place.

We take on a limited number of commissions each year to ensure every piece receives the time, attention, and depth it requires.

The Commissioning Process

1. Initial Conversation

We begin with a direct conversation about your project, your architecture, and what you want the entrance to express.

This is not a sales call — it is a design conversation. We are determining whether the project is a fit, and how deeply it can be developed.

If appropriate, we discuss scope, timing, and next steps.

2. Discovery & Context

Every door begins with context.

We study the architecture, material language, and setting. For legacy or narrative-based work, we also explore story, symbolism, and meaning.

This stage defines what the work is about — not just how it will look.

3. Design & Concept Development

Ideas are translated into carved form.

Sketches, studies, and visual directions are developed to establish composition, scale, and emotional tone.

This is where the piece begins to take its identity.

4. Approval & Commission

A refined concept is presented for approval.

Once approved, the commission is confirmed with a deposit and scheduled into the studio calendar.

At this stage, the work becomes formally yours — and production planning begins.

5. Craft & Execution

The carving process begins.

Each door is hand-carved in solid wood, shaped through a combination of traditional technique and sculptural refinement.

Progress is guided by material response — not mass production timelines.

6. Completion & Installation

The finished work is prepared for installation and integration into its architectural setting.

Where required, coordination with architects, builders, or installers is provided to ensure proper fit and finish.

The door is not simply delivered — it is brought into place.

Investment & Engagement

Each commission is unique, and investment is determined by scale, complexity, and material.

We provide clarity early in the process so that expectations are aligned before design work begins.
